Warsaw, New York native Justine Kurland’s name has become synonymous with large, idyllic landscapes which recontextualize traditions of painting and early photography using subjects ranging from contemporary adolescence to motherhood and masculinity. The images featured in Candela’s Coming Down to Earth present nude female figures among rural landscapes, both as gelatin silver prints and C-prints.
