EXPLORING THE ALTERED PHOTOGRAPH
January 7 – February 19, 2022
Opening: Friday, January 7th, from 11am - 6:30pm
Happy New Year from Candela Gallery! We're excited to kick off 2022 with a group exhibition, (de)constructed. The show brings together eight artists who physically and/or digitally alter their work by cutting, sculpting, and reconstructing the image using various materials.
As a contemporary photography gallery, we find that we focus on the pristine photograph most days. However, we find particular joy in the photographic object. This translates to a real interest in the convergence of photography as original works on paper and the intersection with other mediums, as well as physical alterations that can even result in collaborations with others. (de)constructed showcases a range of subtle and forceful transformation techniques using materials such as; fabric textiles, 3D printed tapestries, anonymous photographs, wooden sculptural objects, interactive videos, vintage magazines, postcards, and paintings by other artists.
Artists featuring work in the exhibition include Morgan Ashcom, Vivian Chiu, Caleb Cole, Kensuke Koike, Karen Navarro, Drew Nikonowicz, Paul Stephenson, and Stephanie J. Woods.
Follow along as we highlight featured works by each participating artist and dive into their practice over the next two months. (de)constructed will open this Friday, January 7th, and remain on view through February 19th, 2022. The gallery will hold extended hours this Friday for the opening on January 7th, from 11 - 6:30 pm.
