Candela Books + Gallery is announcing a special juried exhibition:
Photography is Dead…Long Live Photography!
Submissions open October 1, 2020 at 8:00am EST
and will close October 22, 2020 at 11:59pm EST
Photography is Dead.
By the time this exhibition opens, the year 2020 will be behind us. And good riddance.
Picture 2021 and what lies ahead. Will we be living on a post-truth, dying planet, imagined by Margaret Atwood? Hopefully not. Will we be dancing through bedazzled streets, like extras in a Baz Luhrmann film? Probably not. Most likely we’ll be somewhere in between, it’s impossible to say right now.
With the upcoming election, our future is a multiverse of possibilities and, like Schrödinger's cat, we must wait to see what fate befalls us.
But we are all in this moment. Together. Alone. United. At odds.
We hope to see change. We desire evolution.
So we’re looking to photographers and our peers asking the question, what are you doing right now?
This call is looking for the art you are making, in this moment. We invite you to share with us one seminal work that you feel needs to be seen right now. The work can be in progress. We are open to video works. Raw ideas are acceptable. We want to build the resulting collection into a visual call to action. Fresh work is preferred.
At Candela, we will be marking our tenth anniversary. So…

The exhibition will be on display at Candela Gallery from January 8 - February 20, 2021.
Featured works will also be included in a printed catalog published by Candela Books.
