Applying both photography and painting to her practice, Holly Robert’s newest exhibit presents dream-like portraits of the recognizable: familiar places, scenes, and subjects that have been reconstructed and embellished by Robert’s use of collage.

At times whimsical in nature, the included works are grounded in poetic narratives, blending elements of Robert’s life and surroundings living in the American Southwest. Robert’s process begins by painting abstract foundations and then directly applying her own photographs, that have been deconstructed, combined, and recombined, onto the surface. The finished forms drift between themes of understated joy, existential dread, and the muffled day-to-day banality of the 21st century; each piece a reflection of Robert’s own experiences and her perspective on the resiliency of humanity.
