BOOK RELEASE EVENT
Memory Orchards:

Join us Thursday, February 1st, from 6pm to 10pm as we celebrate the book release and companion exhibition for Memory Orchards, an anthology about photographers and their families.

Come take a walk through the exhibition, meet some of our book artists, and enjoy some snacks and karaoke! Earlybirds will get a chance to snag an early release physical copy of the book.

Because we will be ordering food for attendees and hosting artists in-house, we ask that you confirm your attendance in advance below.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Memory Orchards presents a broad survey of family experience, through highs and lows, through lust and loss, creating a survey of work which reflects our understanding of ‘family’ in this moment. The work is derived from long term documentary projects, from archive based explorations, from mundane interactions to moments of intimacy, from family snapshots to artful portraits. While the motivations of any given photographer are always distinctly individual, there are some foundational ideas which persist and are shared widely. Some artists write of their desire to remember, to document their own peculiar and beautiful realities. Others write of their desire to share their experience in hopes of adding to larger conversations about representation or identity. Taken as a whole, this engaging collection of work is complex and personal but deeply relatable.

Featuring 186 photos from 60 photographers:

SAVE THE DATE: BEERS & BINGO UNBOUND12! PREVIEW NIGHT

Candela Gallery is thrilled to be hosting our inaugural Cliché Bingo Night
along with a preview of our twelfth annual juried + invitational exhibition, UnBound12!

Join us Thursday, July 6, for a ticketed bingo night to kick off fundraising for our 2023 Candela Collection acquisitions from UnBound12!. One ticket gets you at least two rounds of Bingo, oodles of merriment, and the chance to win some very intentional prizes that are definitely not from our lost and found.

All Bingo Night ticket sales go directly to the fund for this year’s Collection acquisitions.

Our Bingo subjects will be our own beloved photography clichés - we will flip through submitted images and the cliché each image best represents will be determined by a jury. Because our Bingo sets have only 16 cards, we will offer two sets of 16 people the chance to play alternating rounds of bingo. When you’re not playing bingo, you may mingle, browse the show, or contribute to the jury which decides which cliche each photo best represents.

Our event will be limited to 32 slots, so claim your ticket while there’s still space!
